“Many people have the misperception that Pilates is either too expensive, too hard or not hard enough” says owner and founder, Carlos Requejo. “Pilates is for everyone – people of all ages, sizes, fitness and health levels. At Core Response & Wellness, we offer classes to make it more affordable. We have a staff of instructors with high-level training in various areas of expertise.”
Carlos Requejo has more than 30 years of experience as a Pilates and fitness instructor, and is an international master teacher and personal trainer. He is certified with Stott Pilates Advance Level, has completed workshops in scoliosis with Karena Thek, Marie Jose Blom and Michele Larsson, and Pre and Post Natal with Jennifer Gianni. He was an AFAA Master Certification Specialist in Group Primary, Practical Pilates, Practical Yoga, Mat Science I and II, and Floor, Core and More. Carlos is also Hatha Yoga certified with White Lotus Foundation, TRX™ certified, Oov™ certified, and has been a massage therapist for more than 25 years. He has also starred in numerous fitness videos and co-written manuals about Pilates and yoga manuals for AFAA.
Carlos discovered Pilates through Michele Larsson while co-owning a fitness, yoga and dance studio in Santa Fe in the late 90’s. His own personal injuries, brought on by the high demands of working in the fitness industry, led him to seek Pilates to address his issues. To learn more about the work of Joseph Pilates, he moved to Los Angeles in 2001 to work exclusively with Sue Atamian Huntley (BASI™ certified).
Four years later, in 2005, he completed his Stott Pilates training with John Garey and opened Core Response Pilates & Wellness in Santa Monica. After nine years at his original location and a growing clientele, Carlos relocated Core Response to its larger location in Sunset Park.
Carlos not only works with celebrities, athletes, working moms and overall healthy clients, but also obtains many clients through referrals from various chiropractors, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals. He has a passion for working with clients who have scoliosis, as he himself was diagnosed with a mild case.

“I strive to instill a mind-body awareness into each training session – not just an exercise routing. I want my clients to feel great and strong from the inside out.”
Before moving to the U.S., Frances was a Registered Nurse in London and was first introduced to Pilates in the 1980’s during her pregnancy. In 2000, her passion for the practice led her to study at the renowned Body Arts and Sciences International (BASI™). She began teaching in 2002 and later certified as a BASI™ instructor trainer in 2006. She joined Core Response in 2009 and continues her education through workshops with Stott™ (John Garey), BASI™ (Rael Isacowitz) and PMA seminars where she worked with well-known experts Alan Herdman and Mary Bowen.
With a style that is gentle and nurturing, Frances’ approach to Pilates is that of a healer. She enjoys working with a wide age range of clients from athletic to people in their later years who are trying Pilates for the first time. Crediting her own Pilates work for the “quick and easy” delivery of her two children, she also offers pre/post natal Pilates therapy for her female clients. She also trains clients with scoliosis, back pain and those needing post-surgery rehabilitation.
Marybeth has been a part of the Core Response team since 2012. She is certified by PMA™ and received her Pilates education from BASI™ (Body Arts and Sciences International) while also completing Mat and Reformer training through STOTT Pilates®. She is TRX™ certified and is currently studying the Pilates Suspension Method, which is performing the Pilates repertoire using the TRX™. She is also certified in working with the Oov™. Other continuing education workshops Marybeth has completed include: “Pilates for the Mature Client,” “Unwinding
Scoliosis” and “The Overweight Client.”
Marybeth earned a degree in Medical Technology from New York State. Her background includes yoga and nutrition, and she is currently working toward an “Active for Life” specialty. She particularly enjoys working with mature clientele.
Introduced to Pilates after chronic back issues sustained from a childhood accident, Marybeth discovered the healing and strengthening aspects of Pilates. Having achieved relief, she decided to share the benefits of Pilates to help others. She is a passionate instructor committed to personalized training and excited to be a member of the Core Response family.

“Everyone can move with their own capacity.”
Lee has been a Pilates instructor since 1983, and truly believes in the philosophy that everyone has some capacity to move their bodies. She was a former gymnast and dancer, and understands the many benefits from Pilates from those years in training. She has studied with some of the most reputable Pilates experts, including Ron Fletcher, a first-generation student of Joseph Pilates. She has also worked extensively teaching Pilates in a Physical Therapy facility, understanding the benefits of Pilates movement and how it complements traditional PT therapies.
Certified in both Pilates and Gyrotonic™, Lee offers a progressive and innovative training that is accessible to anyone’s needs, age and level.
“I am happy to share my knowledge with others, and honor and respect everyone who entrusts their bodies to me. I recognize that this is a sacred trust, and I treat my clients accordingly.”
Growing up in a spiritual community near San Francisco, Scotus was exposed to many healing practices – yoga, meditation and a healthful diet were a part of his daily life. His grandmother was an original student of Moshe Feldenkrais, the creator of the Feldenkrais Method, a revolutionary approach to improving quality of life through mindful movement. Constantly sharing her love of sensitivity and touch, she had a very big influence on Scotus. That influence, combined with his own personal healing from chronic pain led the path to his own study and career in healing through Structural Integration.
